Why We Call It The Soul Shak
The Soul Shak is named in honor of Luke Stashak, a close friend of our family who became like one of our own. Luke was a thoughtful, creative young man—an aspiring writer and photographer—who eventually gave his life to Jesus and experienced a beautiful transformation. But like so many in his generation, Luke struggled silently with deep emotional pain. In the spring of 2018, that pain overwhelmed him, and Luke ended his life. His loss devastated us.
To honor Luke’s memory, we named our counseling space The Soul Shak—a nod to his last name and a reminder of why SoulQuest exists: to offer a safe place for people carrying hidden pain to encounter the healing presence of God. A photo of Luke hangs on the wall inside The Shak, placed there by his mother during our dedication service. We’ve also established a benevolence fund in his name to help young people battling depression, anxiety, or suicidal thoughts—especially those who can’t afford counseling. It’s encouraging to know there’s a growing number of solid, Biblical counselors available today—your chances of finding the right fit for your unique needs and personality are strong. We’re not here to “pitch” SoulQuest; that wouldn’t feel honest. But we do want to share what the SoulQuest experience is like so you can make a thoughtful, informed decision as you pursue healing. While every session is shaped by the needs of the moment, here’s a simple outline of how Dr. Pete typically walks with clients.

DISCOVERY
What is Dr. Pete discovering? Your story. You’re free to share whatever feels important in your journey so far. And if you’re not sure where to start, that’s okay—Dr. Pete will guide with Spirit-led questions and give space for God to reveal what He wants to heal.
IDENTIFICATION
How has your story shaped your experience, your view of yourself and the world around you? This is a time for Dr. Pete to put himself in your shoes to help you better understand the Why behind your feelings, actions and reactions.
ENCOUNTER
SoulQuest is unique in that the Holy Spirit is wholeheartedly invited into your soul’s healing. Sound strange or even a little scary? Don’t worry—through prayer and prophetic ministry, you’ll find God trustworthy and able to heal and redeem every part of your life. One encounter with Him changes everything.
TEACHING
All of the discovery, identification and encountering are beautiful and powerful, but without practical tools to help you walk in freedom, it can be hard to maintain them in your everyday life. Dr. Pete is thrilled to provide teaching and steps to assist you beyond the walls of the counseling room.
